Zoe Busiek: Wild Card

Poster

Zoe Busiek: Wild Card is both a humour-filled, exuberant character study about one woman’s journey of self discovery and a riveting and suspenseful investigative series about a special fraud team who track down and expose cases based on actual events. Joely Fisher stars as Zoe Busiek, an unusual, down-to-earth woman with a big heart and high-octane personality who, through a set of unseen circumstances, begins for the first time in her life to see herself in a positive light. Rae Dawn Chong and Chris Potter are hard-working, savvy investigators in a Chicago office who spot Zoe’s potential for digging out the truth. Bronson Picket stars as Marcos Morales, an old friend and high school teacher and coach who wants to help Zoe look after her sister’s children - and would love to look after Zoe herself, if she will let him. Zoe’s focus is on her sister’s three children, whom she has come back to her family’s old home in suburban Chicago to raise. With a family to support, Zoe needs to find a job. She questions the police accident report, which says her sister, normally the most careful and cautious driver in the world, was at fault. She keeps on asking questions, and for once, her oversized personality and flaky employment history, prove incredibly useful. She’s not afraid to make a scene or pull a scam of her own to expose lies and find out what really happened. Eventually she convinces Sophie Mason (Chong) and Dan Lennox (Potter), members of the special investigations unit, that the other driver involved in the accident has made a fraudulent claim. Zoe is ecstatic to get hired as the third member of the unit. She makes an ideal investigator nosy, resourceful, imaginative, sceptical and persistent. As the SUI team delves into upcoming cases, their personalities conflict and cause problems, raising issues about how to handle everything from procedures to interpreting the evidence. Zoe, who knows how the cards are stacked, is ready to take the gamble. Even though she has made a lot of wrong choices in the past, she has never lost her generosity or her optimism. When an irresistible force meets an immoveable object, something has GOT to give - and there is nobody more irresistible than Zoe Busiek.
