While hunting for his missing wife, Lucia, DS Mack Stone finds a picture of Paul West, who disappeared after his wife died in a fire. Stone is sure West is the true identity of John Dean, a man who suffered amnesia after a head injury, and who has now built a new life with his wife Jenna. But as Stone's behaviour becomes more eccentric, the less credible the claim seems. Still determined, Stone approaches Dean's wife when she's alone and suggests some secret tests that might reveal whether her husband's amnesia is a fiction. But then a series of anonymous letters appear accusing Stone of murdering his own wife and he is arrested…
